This power supply unit of the type USV 4.2 supplies the needed electrical energy to the electronic operating systems for the coal industry which have been approved to the explosion protection rating “intrinsically safe“. This unit is connected directly to the alternating current supply (AC). When the power supply is switched off because of high gas concentration, the two sealed lead acid accumulators of this unit, which do not have a memory effect, maintain an uninterrupted supply of power to the connected equipment.
Three intrinisically safe outputs with a common minus terminal are available. The output 1 has been designed especially for supplying the WOELKE methanemonitoring system GAMEX II.
In model type USV 4.2, the unit is supplied with 42V or 100V or 230V AC. If required models with other supply AC voltages can also be delivered. The maximum possible rated AC voltage is however 240V.
The unit is mechanically and climatically protected by a steel sheet housing having a protection rating of IP 64. The impact strength of the housing is 20 Joules. On account of its being cast in silicone resin the electronic unit inside the housing has an explosion protection rating „m“ according to the standard EN 50028.
For monitoring the power supply and the charge status of the accumulators at the safety control room, two optocoupler outputs are available in the USV 4.2 unit. This can be connected to a remote transmission system equipped with an intrinsically safe data input.
